Case Study: Bishop Chavasse Primary School
Bishop Chavasse Primary School is a newly opened primary school located in Tonbridge. The school originally opened it’s doors in 2017 and have since been working on becoming one of the best schools in the area.
During 2018 the school embarked on a rebuilding programme to improve the facilities of their school which included specialist classrooms for food technology, nurture, themed group spaces, an inspiring library and spacious classrooms for every year.
As part of the development of this state-of-the-art building, there was a necessity to have all of the utilities gas, water and electric installed. Argon Utility Solutions were approached by Galliford Try to carry out these major works, this being one of the many jobs that Argon were able prove their skill in the multi utility sector.
The gas works required Argon’s specialist engineers to excavate on the existing 180mm MDPE gas main, make live gas connection by means of installing a 180mm x 80mm branch saddle, install valve, test and drill.
Supply and install a new 90mm MDPE service which rose in a pre-installed concrete meter base.
Also, welder to fabricate 3’’ steel connection from meter outlet to below ground pipework for the outlet to the building. Argon also had to test and certificate the installation.
This project was a good example just how far the skills and utility knowledge span, providing a ‘one stop shop’ to Galliford Try with the installation of on-site water. Argon were contracted to supply and install approximately 120mts x 63mm MDPE barrier pipe terminating internally with a stop cock, non-return valve and drain point. To ensure the safety of Argons water works, the teams had to supply laboratory results for chlorination to local water authority liaising with them to carry out the final connection.
Argon Utility Solutions also worked in collaboration with UKPN partnering with them on the installation of the new electrical supply , excavating approximately 100 meters worth of trench installing electrical ducting ensuring all bends in the installation had the regulatory radius for UKPN to pull cables without any issues. The installed duct was bedded and surrounded by sand, backfilled and reinstated as per NJUG regulations.
In addition, 100 meters of BT ducting along with x8 BT standard chambers were installed with Argon liaising with the BT field engineer to make sure the delivery of the BT infrastructure went in smoothly.
Argon hopes to continue to develop relationships with partner companies such as Galliford Try, in the ever-growing gas and multi utility market strengthen the business name as a multi utility installation provider. This will help to support and enhance the Argon Utility Solutions brand are not just gas specialists but a multi utility installation specialist.
The team took great pride in receiving a massive thank by way of an email for the Galliford Try Senior Project Manager.
“I have been genuinely impressed at the collaboration I have seen first hand on site. It is really rewarding to be involved in a project where everyone has worked so well together to find solutions to any issue that arises. This is a result of the great attitude that you (and your teams have shown). To have created this school in just over a year is remarkable. Another achievement for which we should all be proud of, is to have handed the building over without any accidents during the construction. No mean feat considering we have had a team of over 500 people on site contribute to the build. Thank You from me and on behalf of Galliford Try and I look forward to working with you in the future. ”
